My teaching prepares music educators to critically examine power and equity as they develop pedagogies that respond to the communities they work with. I focus on supporting students as they engage with contemporary scholarship, translate these ideas into pedagogical approaches, and continually reflect upon their practice. Often, this work includes expanding who and what is included in music education by embracing popular music and informal learning practices. My philosophy informs a contemporary approach to music teacher education that draws upon popular music, community engagement, and student-led learning.
I teach courses in:
Elementary/General Music Methods
Popular Music Pedagogy
Foundations of Music Education
Technology in Music Education
